Take a TV series tour of the USA

Wish you were on holiday in the USA? Get inspired while watching one of these absorbing TV box sets and enjoy the sights and sounds of some of the USA’s most inviting destinations from the comfort of your own home.

Arrested Development, Newport Beach, California

Arrested Development follows the dysfunctional Bluth family as they struggle to adapt to life following the collapse of their real estate business. The show is set in picturesque Newport Beach, less than an hours drive south from Los Angeles and home to the real Original Frozen Banana Stand on Balboa Island, which is run in the show by George-Michael Bluth, played by Michael Cera.

Grey’s Anatomy, Seattle, Washington

Now in its 16th season, Greys Anatomy is a drama series centred around the personal and professional lives of five surgical interns. The story is set in the fictional Grace Hospital in Seattle, and the series shows many locations from the city’s iconic skyline, including the Space Needle and Seattle Waterfront.

True Blood, Louisiana

Get a window into Louisiana with this offbeat vampire drama set in the bars, clubs and home of the fictional town of Bon Temps. Anna Paquin stars as Sookie Stackhouse, a Louisiana waitress with telepathic powers whose life changes forever when 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) walks into her place of work. Many of the atmospheric outdoors scenes were shot in Louisiana, in locations including Lake Bistineau State Park in Doyline and a broad range of typical local hangouts, from rustic bars to stately mansions, as well as The Stockade Bed & Breakfast in Baton Rouge, which features as a fancy restaurant in the show.

Nashville, Tennessee

You can take a virtual tour of the city of Nashville, Tennessee, and get a flavour of the country music scene when you get stuck into this six-season series. In this acclaimed saga Rayna James is the established ‘Queen of Country’ music - however her latest album is not selling well. Her record label suggests that she open for Juliette Barnes, the young and attractive bestselling singer of bubble gum country’. In the unfolding drama the stars vie for the spotlight, and you’ll see locations throughout the city including the Bluebird cafe, a real-life 90-seat music club.

Veep, Washington DC

Take a small screen trip to Maryland and the Capital Region in this comedy smash that ran for seven seasons. Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as Selina Meyer, a driven, foul-mouthed, energetic, manipulative Vice President who aims to leave a legacy without being ground down by the political games of Washington. While you enjoy the one-liners you’ll also see plenty of the state of Maryland, Washington DC landmarks and more. Insiders have said that Veep is a more accurate depiction of national politics than dramas like The West Wing and House of Cards.
