The Fenelon Place Elevator in Dubuque, Iowa, is known as
the world’s shortest and steepest funicular railway, offering a unique and
charming experience for everyone. You will be able to enjoy the fun, quick and
scenic trip, climbing 296 feet and rising 189 feet at a steep angle in just a
couple of minutes.
Cars seat 8 people, and during the ride, unfolds
spectacular views of downtown Dubuque, the Mississippi River, and on clear
days, parts of three states. The cable car’s are operated from the top station
where riders pay a small fare, and if you start at the bottom, you simply pull
a cable to signal to come up.
Fenelon Place Elevator is popular because it connects the
lower downtown area on Fourth Street with Fenelon Place on the bluff, making it
a practical and enjoyable way for tourists to explore the city. Around the
base, visitors find the lively Cable Car Square District with shops, cafes, and
restaurants, while the top, provides a beautiful viewing platform perfect for
sightseeing.
Operating seasonally from April through November, this is a
