CORN PALACE, SOUTH DAKOTA Each year the exterior of the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota, is redecorated with naturally-coloured corn cobs to create huge murals. Similar murals adorning the inside are left in place for 15-20 years. The domed palace dates back to 1921 and is the centrepiece of a fiveday festival each August. It is also a high school basketball arena. Pictured Main image: The Corn Palace in South Dakota is redecorated each year with naturally coloured corn and other grains and native grasses.
