FREEDOM TRAIL, BOSTON Walk back in time by strolling the 2.5-mile red line that passes 16 sites where revolutionary history was made 250 years ago. These include the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, Boston Common, the Boston Massacre Site and the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship still afloat. Join a tour by led by costumed guides. OKLAHOMA CIVIL RIGHTS TRAIL Approved by state legislators in July 2023, the trail recognises Oklahoma’s black history and its role in the U.S. Civil Rights movement by connecting African American towns and native American sites. Of more than 50 original all-black towns, 13 still exist. The trail – several sections of which are already complete – begins in Standing Bear Educational Centre and Memorial Park in Ponca City and ends at the Clara Luper Centre in Oklahoma City. TRAIL OF TEARS NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL Marking the forced removal of more than 16,000 Cherokee people from their homelands east of the Mississippi to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, the trail passes through nine present-day states – Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. They travelled by foot, horse, wagon or steamboat in 1838-1839. Trail sites include the Museum of the Cherokee Indian in Cherokee, North Carolina. OREGON NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL Wagon wheel ruts caused by thousands of settlers heading for a new life in Oregon in the 1840s are still evident today in six states. Beginning in Independence, Missouri, the 2,000-mile trail crosses Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Idaho before finishing at Oregon City, where the End of the Trail Interpretive Centre recounts the settlers’ struggles. There are museums, interpretive centres and historic sites along the route.
