TRIBAL NATIONS COME TOGETHER The Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the largest powwow in North America. Taking place over three days each April, the event celebrates Native American culture and heritage through song, dancing, drumming competitions, a horse parade and Miss India contest, with more than 3,000 performers from over 500 tribes taking part. The Indian Traders Market features ethnic art, crafts, clothes, jewellery and food. RODEO GA GA Charging Home Stampede Park in Browning, Montana’s Blackfeet Indian Reservation, just east of Glacier National Park, is the focal point for the largest Blackfeet tribal event of the year, in July. Members of the four Blackfeet bands take part in the four-day North American Indian Days. Celebrations include a carnival, parade, drumming, stick games and professional kids’ rodeos. ALASKA NATIVE HERITAGE The Alaska Native Heritage Centre near Anchorage honours the 11 indigenous cultures native to Alaska.
