BIG SUR COAST HIGHWAY, CALIFORNIA It may be just a 72-mile section of California’s iconic, 650-mile-long Pacific Coast Highway, but this All-American Road takes in the California coast’s most sublime scenery as it winds along the top of towering rocky cliffs past hidden coves and through redwood forests. The Big Sur section of Highway 1 is scheduled to reopen by the end of March 2026 with the completion of work to repair landslides, allowing through traffic for the first time in more than three years. HISTORIC COLUMBIA RIVER HIGHWAY, OREGON This scenic byway, originally built between 1913 and 1922, runs through the Columbia Head out on the highways less travelled to discover natural glories, centuries of history and cultural treasures.
