Top USA music festivals for 2018

From blues and jazz to country, bluegrass, rock and roll, R&B, grunge, hip-hop and rap, North America has led the world in musical invention, so it’s no surprise that Americans love a music festival. Here’s our guide to the best of USA music festivals in 2018.


Lollapolooza, Chicago, Illinois

This festival brings a huge buzz - and large crowds, right, to Chicago’s Grant Park every summer. Last year’s line-up included The Killers, The XX, Arcade Fire and Muse. August 2-5. 


Underground Music Showcase, Denver, Colorado

The Underground Music Showcase (UMS), scheduled to take place between July 26th and 29th – is the Denver’s big indie music festival. Gigs take place in more than 15 different venues and the festival features more than 400 local and national acts.


Tomorrowland: Taste of Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada

This unusual Las Vegas festival combines fine dining with electronic dance music, with international DJs and big name chefs from around the world performing on stage. The festival in Nevada's exciting desert city, runs over two weekends in July and has a must-see musical line-up, plus food stations serving specially-curated dishes for the event. Wolfgang Puck, Gordon Ramsay David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Armin van Buuren, Deadmau5 and Fat Boy Slim have all attended in the past.


Shaky Knees, Atlanta, Georgia

Set in Atlanta's downtown Central Park, the Shaky Knees Music Festival, left, held between 4th and 6th May 2018, features more than 60 bands each year. This year’s lineup includes Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age, The National, David Byrne, The Talking Heads, Tenacious D, Fleet Foxes, The War On Drugs and others.


The Life is Beautiful Festival, Las Vegas, Nevada

This lively music and arts festival returns to downtown Las Vegas between 21st and 23rd September and full lineup will be announced soon. Spread over 18 city blocks, including hotels, casinos and the Fremont East bar district. Great food, wine and beer enhance the feel-good experience of the best music and inspirational speakers. 


Winter Jazzfest, New York City, New York

New York City considers itself the world's stage and it certainly has a claim to be the global home of jazz. The annual Winter Jazzfest, held between January 10th and 17th, features more than 100 acts performing at venues around the five boroughs, including Le Poisson Rouge, Judson Memorial Church and the Bitter End. 


Coachella, Coachella Valley, California

This three-day sun-kissed California festival attracts the USA’s biggest stars to the stage – and as festivalgoers. This years’s headliners are Beyonce, The Weeknd and Eminem, who top the bill of national and international acts, over two weekends in the middle of April. 


Bumbershoot, Seattle, Washington

Each year thousands of people across the country flock to Seattle, in Washington State, to attend the Bumbershoot festival, a multi-disciplinary arts festival that’s been going since 1972. Bumbershoot’s diverse programming includes live music, comedy, theatre, film, visual arts and dance performance.


Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Bristol, Virginia

Virginia is a great place to hear country, bluegrass and folk music live throughout the summer. The three-day Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion celebrates Bristol’s rich heritage, showcasing the very best Appalachian music with more than 20 stages of live music, a bluegrass tuition jam camp and a free children's day event. This year it’s on between 21st and 23rd September.
