5 of the best 24-hour cities in the USA

Heading to the USA to party all night? Plan your holiday in one of these dynamic 24-hour US cities to eat, drink and party through the night.

San Diego, California

If surfing, languishing the beaches or strolling along the Waterfront Park in San Diego hasn’t worn you out, you can explore the city by night too. Have a sundowner at a bar or restaurant on Pacific Beach - or the Andaz hotel, right - as the sun sets over the ocean, then head to the city’s lively Gaslamp Quarter, pictured below left, to go bar hopping and discover the city’s craft brewery scene. The neighbourhood’s restaurants, bars and clubs, are open until the early hours.

Las Vegas, Nevada

The city of Las Vegas, in Nevada, is made for 24-hour fun – so you can eat, drink, dance and gamble here all night long. Have some cocktails, hit the casino and spend your earnings on a big dinner. Fill your plate at the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace, or treat yourself to a fancy meal at Hakkasan at the MGM Grand - afterwards you can try to sneak past the queues to get into the five-floor nightclub of the same name, which hosts some of the best DJs in the world. After all that dancing you’ll need a snack. Try the In-N-Out Burger, or head to Mr. Lucky’s 24-hour diner, at the Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. And of course, you can even get married by an Elvis impersonator at 4am in one of the many walk-in 24-hour wedding venues including Circus Circus - many of which will allow you to stream the ceremony live to your delighted relatives back home.

Washington DC

There’s a real buzz in Washington DC at the moment - and we’re not just talking about the high level of political engagement. There are a whole lot of new nightspots and hotels to discover. The waterfront Wharf area is a brand new neighbourhood to discover, packed with cool new shops, restaurants and late-opening bars. At the end of the night, crash out at one of the city’s hip new hotels including The Line, and the anti-Trump Eaton DC, which doubles up as a sort of arts and culture centre, a ‘gathering place for an inclusive tribe of changemakers and creatives.’

New Orleans

The city of New Orleans in Louisiana is famous for its Mardi Gras carnival and it’s not hard to see why: this city offers bars, restaurants, great live music, soulful jazz and blues clubs all night long. Feeling peckish at 4am? Head to the city’s famous Cafe du Monde for their famous beignets - square donuts covered in icing sugar. Wondering where to head first? Check out one of the late-night itineraries created by Visit New Orleans, tailored to the city’s different areas. If you’ve got the stamina, there’s lots to do in the daytime too, from museums and eclectic shopping boutiques, to historic tours, art galleries, sporting events and beautiful parks.

New York City

Nobody needs telling that there’s tonnes to do by day in New York City, from climbing the Empire State Building to strolling through Central Park or hitting the city’s awesome museums. But this is the city that never sleeps, so you can keep exploring it well after dark. Go clubbing or check out live music at a jazz venue like Smoke Jazz & Supper Club where you can enjoy live music seven nights a week until 3am. Feeling peckish? Tuck into a gourmet burger or salad at 4am at cool classic 24-hour spot Cafeteria, where the girls in Sex and the City met for a catch up, or pick up a bagel at the legendary Katz's Deli. Shopping never stops either: need a new iPad at 4am? Hit the Apple Store at Fifth Avenue at East 59th Street. You’ll be able to get wherever you want in New York City, whenever you want: the subway runs 24 hours a day, so does the Staten Island Ferry.
