Love to run? Whether you’re a serious triathlete or like to run for fun, here’s our pick of marathons, half marathons, triathlons and fun-runs in the USA in 2018. 


37th Seven-Mile Bridge Run, Florida – 14 April 2018 

In this unique race 1,500 runners race across the longest of the 43 bridges that help make up the Florida Keys Overseas Highway, connecting the exquisite islands of the iconic Florida Keys

Salt Lake City Marathon, Utah – 21 April 2018

This annual city marathon is a great way to discover this cool mountain city.   

Bay to Breakers, California – 20 May 2018

Established to boost San Francisco's morale when it was being rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1906 the Bay to Breakers 12K race is now one of the largest footraces in the world with more than 50,000 participants and 100,000 spectators. The run tours through nine neighbourhoods, and participants can walk, run  or take part as one of 13 in a human ‘centipede’. 

Escape from Alcatraz, California – 3 June 2018 

This quirky California triathlon starts with a 1.5 mile swim in icy cold water from Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay to the Marina Green Beach. A quick warm-up run is then followed by an 18-mile bike ride on the Great Highway through Golden Gate Park then an 8-mile run through Golden Gate National Recreation Area and under the Golden Gate Bridge before a triumphant finish line at Marina Green.  

Gorges Ithaca Half Marathon, New York State – 16 June 2018

You’ll get a guided tour of the highlights of glorious Ithaca on this half marathon, taking in waterfalls, gorges, creeks, parks and the majestic waters of Cayuga Lake, as well as historic neighbourhoods, parks and even Ithaca Farmers Market. 

Utah Midnight Run, Utah – June/July 2018

Runners in this magical Utah race chase the midnight hour, racing along Legacy Highway under a full moon, glow sticks in hand, trying to hit the finish line before the clock strikes 12. 5K, 10K or half-marathon, you choose! 

Graniteman challenge, California – 7-9 September 2018

Not quite ready for the Iron Man? Try the Graniteman challenge in Mammoth, California. Over the three days of this intense event, athletes do a 2.4mile swim, 102-mile bike and 12.4 mile run.  

Chicago Marathon, Illinois – 7 October 2018 

One of the highlights of the marathon calendar, the Chicago Marathon is now in its 41st year. Runners from all 50 USA states and more than 100 countries compete to reach the finish line in Grant Park.  

Detroit Marathon, Michigan – 20-21 October 2018

This October marathon takes runners from Windsor in Canada to Detroit, through the famous Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. The event includes a 26-mile entry, a 5K, walks, relays and more.
