Minnesota’s Championship History is rich ground for golf itineraries

Bloomington, MN Convention & Visitors Bureau created The Great Northern Golf Trail, a customizable four to 14-day itinerary featuring championship courses and region-wide golf in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Minnesota has world-renowned golf courses and the 2021 Ryder Cup is in nearby at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin from 21 to 26 September. With the Ryder Cup in Wisconsin, visitors to the area will be able to conveniently follow the region-wide golf itineraries both in Minnesota and near the Ryder Cup location.  When visiting, be sure to enjoy much more than golf -  fish in one of the 10,000 lakes, hike and bike on a variety of trails and explore pristine forests which surround many of the courses - Minnesota has a unique and beautiful experience to offer all visitors.

Minnesota burst onto the stage as a golf destination when hosting the Ryder Cup in 2016, touted as having the largest crowds in Ryder Cup history. The Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota will host the 47th Ryder Cup in 2029 becoming the first American venue to host a second Ryder Cup.

Minnesota is home to Mall of America®, the United States largest shopping and entertainment complex with 525 stores, 25 attractions and no tax on clothing or shoes.  Located at the doorstep of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), Bloomington is located only 15 minutes from nearby Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Golfers can easily fly into Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) and play the Legends Golf Club and The Wilds Golf Club in the local area.

After a night or two in one of Bloomington’s over 44 hotels, the next day you can travel just 2.5 hours by car to the Brainerd Lakes area to play The Classic at Madden's, Cragun's Legacy Golf Courses and The Pines and The Preserve at Grand View Lodge. From Brainerd, after an overnight at a Northern Minnesota resort, guests can travel two hours by car northeast to Biwabik, MN and play The Legend at Giants Ridge.

End your golf rounds in Minnesota 40 minutes north at The Wilderness at Fortune Bay. Choose to spend the night at a Fortune Bay Casino Resort Casino on Lake Vermilion or from there, take a  scenic half day drive to Wisconsin's most challenging courses. Play The Straits and The Irish at Whistling Straits. Or, return to MSP airport, for a quick flight (less than an hour) from MSP to General Mitchell International Airport (MKE).
