Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Cleveland is the official home of rock and roll, which is why the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is here on the Lake Erie waterfront and nowhere else. Inside, head to The Garage – pick up a real instrument and make as much noise as you like. It’s actively encouraged. Once you’ve dragged yourself away, test your fingertip wizardry on the music-themed pinball machines – even Pete Townshend would approve. Decades of music history, and something for every age.
Great Lakes Science Center
Right along the waterfront, the
Great Lakes Science Center is home to the NASA Glenn Visitor Center – one of only 11 NASA-affiliated museums in the US. An actual Apollo Command Module that carried astronauts to the Skylab space station takes centre stage, alongside spacecraft simulators, genuine space hardware, and exhibits on life aboard the International Space Station. The DOME Theater and the historic Steamship William G. Mather moored outside round things out nicely.
Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Dinosaurs, ancient Egypt, North American wildlife – the
Cleveland Museum of Natural History covers a lot of ground. It’s also where you’ll find Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old skeleton discovered by a Cleveland curator in 1974 that changed our understanding of human evolution overnight. Outside, the Ralph Perkins II Wildlife Center is the real surprise – rescued and rehabilitated Ohio animals that can’t return to the wild. Bald eagles, otters, bobcats, coyotes, owls. Each with their own story.
Greater Cleveland Aquarium
Housed inside the historic FirstEnergy Powerhouse – a 19th-century building that once powered Cleveland’s streetcar system – the
Greater Cleveland Aquarium has 55 exhibits and more than 4,000 creatures to discover. Walk through the SeaTube tunnel with sharks swimming overhead and you’ll quickly notice the silent hush that falls upon everyone, every time.
Cedar Point
About an hour from Cleveland,
Cedar Point has spent 150 years becoming one of the finest theme parks on the planet. Seventeen roller coasters, a full waterpark, and a Lake Erie peninsula setting that looks almost too good to be true. A brilliant day trip that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
Back in Cleveland, the city has plenty more up its sleeve – and a lot of it is best enjoyed outside.
Lake Erie Waterfront
We’re not saying it’s the Caribbean, and honestly, who needs it to be. Edgewater Park is a 2,400-foot stretch of sandy shoreline with swimming, kayak and paddleboard rentals, beach volleyball, and views of the downtown skyline across the water. Cleveland and its beach has a habit of catching visitors completely off guard. In the best possible way.
Cleveland Metroparks
Known locally as the Emerald Necklace,
Cleveland Metroparks covers 25,000 acres across 18 reservations wrapping around the city. Woodland trails, cycling routes, little waterfalls, and Nature Centers open year-round with live animal exhibits. Pack a picnic, pick a trail, and let the kids lead the way.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Ohio’s only national park sits right on Cleveland’s southern edge. Brandywine Falls and the Towpath Trail are must-sees, but the
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad tends to steal the show – a heritage train that winds through the valley and delivers views you simply can’t get any other way. Kids love it. Adults quietly love it just as much.
