Each June, Detroit welcomes thousands of visitors to Motor
City Pride, the largest Pride celebration in Michigan. Held at Hart Plaza on
the city's riverfront, the event brings together the LGBTQ+ community, allies
and visitors for a weekend of celebration, entertainment and community spirit.
Motor City Pride attracts more than 65,000 participants and has become one of
Detroit's signature annual events.
A Celebration with History
Motor City Pride traces its roots back to 1972, when the
first Pride march was held in downtown Detroit to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights
and equality. Over the years, the event has grown from a small march and picnic
into a major festival featuring live entertainment, community organisations,
food vendors and the popular Pride Parade through downtown Detroit.
Experience Detroit During Pride
Visitors can enjoy much more than the festival itself.
Detroit's vibrant neighbourhoods, museums, restaurants and waterfront
attractions make it easy to turn Pride weekend into a longer city break. The
city's welcoming atmosphere and diverse cultural scene offer plenty to discover
before and after the celebrations.
