1.) Hiking – Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. No photo or brochure image will ever come to close capturing the look of shock and awe on your face the first time you see the canyon for real. There are multiple short trails along the rim or for the more adventurous and intrepid, try the steep Bright Angel Trail down to Plateau Point deep inside the canyon.
2.) White water rafting – Arkansas River, Colorado. This river is the ultimate location in the entire Rockies. It can cater for those beginners new to rafting who just want to float down the river at Browns Canyon to those experienced thrill-seekers looking for their next big hit on the upper sections of the river.
3.) Mountain Biking – Moab, Utah. Whilst there are many great locations throughout the country, you simply can’t look any further than the mountain bike mecca of Moab. Situated between the iconic national parks of Canyonlands and Arches, there is miles upon miles of great single-track trails, awesome desert views, and probably the most famous trail in the country, the Slickrock Trail.
4.) Wildlife Viewing – Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina. This wild place along the North Carolina coast, has one of the largest populations of black bears on the east coast. You can often see bears as you drive along the highway. It is also home to over 200 migratory bird species, the American Alligator and one of their proudest inhabitants, the critically endangered red wolf thrives throughout the refuge.
5.) Horseback Riding – Pretty much all of Wyoming! There lies an inner cowboy in most of us. So why not try it for real in multiple locations throughout the great state of Wyoming. There are millions of acres of public land from the famous Yellowstone Park in the west to the high plains of eastern Wyoming to explore and feel that western spirit on guided trail rides during the day and then a fabulous cookout in the evening reliving your adventures around an open fire.
