If you're one of the many travellers looking to visit
Florida, find your own brand of sandy serenity at Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach.
A top priority for visitors to Florida is “where can I find
a great beach?” which can mean different things to different people. There are
big beaches and small beaches and there are crowded beaches and a few quiet
uncrowded beaches. At Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach there is a mainland beach,
island beaches, and a harbour beach.
You'll find a treasure trove of portable
souvenirs: fossilized shark teeth and seashells of all sizes, shapes, and
colours can be found on the beaches of Manasota Key: Englewood
Beach, Stump Pass Beach State Park, and Blind Pass Beach. At Stump Pass Beach, the driftwood looks
almost sculptural, and it's said that if you place a shell on the
branch of a stump and make a wish, it will come true.
Knight Island is just a stone’s throw from the mainland
but feels a world apart. Set on a dazzling, broad expanse of beach,
the island offers both private homes and condo rentals, so you must be staying
on the island to have access to the beach. Palm Island Resort, at
the northern tip of the island, offers activities for children and adults.
Those longing for a Zen-like experience will enjoy a
paddling trip from the landside of Don Pedro Island State Park.
Sometimes you just need to go where “quiet” is the word of
the day. Little Gasparilla Island, where golf carts rule the
road and which is also only accessible by boat, is just the place for serenity.
It's also a shell collector’s dream. The white sand beaches are never
crowded and lead to blue-green waters where you will often see dolphins
frolic.
