Iconic Flavors: DuPage Style

DuPage County's dining scene is defined by can't-miss flavors and iconic dishes. From beloved classics to fresh takes on local favorites, these meals showcase the best of the region's culinary creativity.
Gnocchi Della Casa from Antico Posto
Antico Postois a cozy restaurant and wine bar serving Italian classics. Typically, gnocchi are crafted from potatoes, flour, and salt. At Antico Posto, their ricotta-based gnocchi elevate this classic dish, earning acclaim from patrons for its delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Rainbow Cone from The Original Rainbow Cone
At The Original Rainbow Cone, they believe life is too short for just one flavor. Celebrating 100 years in 2026, the iconic Rainbow Coine layers, not scoops, five flavors: Orange Sherbert, Pistachio, Palmer House, Strawberry, and Chocolate. A colorful classic that's as fun to eat as it is to see.
Italian Beef from Buona
In the 1950s and 1960s, resourceful Italian immigrants in Chicago began creating hearty, flavorful sandwiches using lean, tougher cuts of meat with a secret seasoning blend. The meat was slow-cooked for hours, thinly sliced, and served on fresh bread dipped in savory gravy. Those sandwiches are still served today by the Buonavolanto family.
Deep Dish Pizza from Lou Malnati's
Considered the oldest family name in Chicago pizza, Lou Malnati's is rich in bold history and flavor. Using only the freshest and finest ingredients available, the company meets regularly with the California farmers who grow the tomatoes for their homemade sauce.
Harry's Chicken Vesuvio from Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse
The Chicago Tribune named this the "Best Chicken Vesuvio in the City," and with good reason! Tender chicken, golden potatoes, and sweet peas are simmered with garlic and a splash of white wine to create a rustic, flavorful dish. The sophisticated, high-energy restaurant pays tribute to Harry Caray, the beloved sportscaster.
Shrimp Ersilia from Clara's
Shrimp, fresh portobello mushrooms, sun-fried tomatoes, and spinach are sautéed in a four-cheese cream sauce and served over fresh angel hair. Named after granddaughter Ersilia, this dish celebrates four generations of the Lizio family, whose culinary roots began in a small Italian grocery that would later inspire the beloved Celeste's Frozen Pizza brand.
