 1. Great Sand Dunes, CO. One of the most diverse places in the USA also has the highest sand dunes on the continent. Come and explore this fascinating park and have fun sand sledding and wildlife viewing.  
2. North Cascades, WA. Just 3hrs north from the cosmopolitan city of Seattle is this gem of a park. With over 300 glaciers, mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls to rival Yosemite, this is a place for the true adventurer in all of us.
3. Petrified Forest, AZ. This national park is a photographer’s dream. Visit whilst the sun is setting, and you will be treated to kaleidoscope of colours from the painted desert and petrified wood that dot the landscape.  
4. Shenandoah, VA. Just 75 miles from the nation’s capital, sits over 300 square miles of pristine wilderness. Enjoy over 500 miles of trails or drive the famous Skyline Drive which cuts through the heart of the park.  
5. Mesa Verde, CO. If you are interested in native American history and heritage, then look no further than this park. It protects nearly 5000 known sites including 600 cliff dwellings making it the largest archaeological preserve in the United States.  
6. Redwood, CA. The fact this park holds nearly half of the tallest and oldest living creatures on earth isn’t tempting enough, then the wild river valleys and the miles of rugged Northern California coastline should do it.  
7. Big Bend, TX. Set deep in the heart of Texas, this park is a long way from anywhere. Even more reason to visit then and enjoy the splendid isolation. At night let your eyes gaze upwards and take in the unparalleled view of the night sky.  
8. Great Basin, NV. This park has gone under the radar for too long. Make the effort to get out there, you will be rewarded with vistas from the 13,000ft Mt Wheeler all the way down to the subterranean passageways of the Lehman Caves.  
9. Badlands, SD. If you want to know what it’s like on another planet, then visit Badlands. This place is like no other. The sheer rugged beauty of this place will amaze you with the striking geologic deposits.  
10. Saguaro, AZ. No other symbol represents the American southwest more than the giant saguaro. This park is home to the nation’s largest cacti with striking views of the surrounding desert landscape.
