Ithaca is the perfect destination for cider tasting!

There is a tradition of orchard-keeping and cider mills in the Finger Lakes dating back to the early days of the nation. Great cider requires unique apple varieties providing tannins, acidity, and complexity. Ithaca’s cider scene has been growing and captivating audiences for the past two decades. From the Ithaca Farmers Market to restaurants and the orchards themselves, cider experiences are all around Ithaca. May-October is prime tasting time. Here is our suggested itinerary:
DAY 1- Begin your weekend at Lively-Run Goat Dairy. The family-owned and operated goat farm produces several types of cow and goat milk cheeses. Open May-October, enjoy a cheese tasting in the peaceful surroundings and visit the friendly goats! Next, Hawi is an Ethiopian restaurant committed to food that is freshly prepared from scratch and given plenty of care and attention. Hawi allows you to bring your own alcohol, so buy a bottle of cider at Cellar D’Or on the Commons to enjoy with dinner.
DAY 2- Start with breakfast at the Falls Restaurant & Tavern in Trumansburg. Friendly and relaxed, they offer affordable dining specializing in home cooked meals! At Grisamore Cider Works, the family-owned farm ferments in small batches to produce a variety of flavors of hard cider. For lunch, Glenwood Pines offers classic American meals overlooking Cayuga Lake. Next, taste and tour at Black Diamond Cider, one of the oldest Finger Lakes cider orchards. With over 100 varieties of apples and pears, many are heirloom and European varieties selected for cider-making qualities. An early dinner awaits at Ithaca’s world-famous Moosewood Restaurant. For 45 years they have been serving vegetarian & vegan entrees using local produce and have fourteen internationally acclaimed cookbooks.
DAY 3- Breakfast on Sunday at the Ithaca Farmers Market has local coffee and food vendors. You will find cider by the bottle to purchase. An active day awaits with a hike through Taughannock Falls State Park to Taughannock Falls. The tallest free-falling waterfall in the northeast USA, it is one of three to see at the State Park. After hiking, cider by the glass and farm-to-table food cuisine at the Finger Lakes Cider House. Head to South Hill Cider for a guided tasting in their tasting room or opt for outdoor seating with remarkable views. End with dinner at The Rook for elevated, reimagined comfort classics and creative cocktails.
