Some of our favourite dispersed/free camping sites in the USA

Coconino National Forest, Arizona.
This forest situated in central Arizona around Sedona and Flagstaff offering nearly 2 million acres of pristine wilderness is one of the most diverse forests in the country from red rock canyons to ponderosa pine forests. It also offers near limitless options for dispersed camping and in some areas even offering camping spots with fire pits so you can enjoy a BBQ whilst taking in your stunning surroundings.
Deep Creek Preserve, Florida.
This preserve offers a great opportunity to explore the nearby beaches, estuaries and stunning wetlands in this part of Florida. It is operated by the Southwest Florida Water Management District and does require a reservation to be made beforehand but is free to camp on its land.
Natchez, Mississippi.
Situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, this jewel is one of the oldest and most atmospheric small cities in the country, packed with historic buildings to explore. And the best bit is the Natchez Visitors Center just a short walk from downtown with its choice of great restaurants and bars, allows you to park in their car park for up to 2 days with electrical hookups and water for free!
Nomad View, Buffalo Gap National Grassland, South Dakota.
Situated between Badlands National Park and the Black Hills, this 600,000 acres of wilderness is in a prime location to explore this part of the state. Several recreational opportunities are available to you from hiking and scenic drives. It has several dispersed camping sites (or just find your own perfect spot) so you can revel in the quiet open spaces, solitude and endless horizons if offers.
North Beach, Padre Island National Seashore, Texas.
The Padre Island National Seashore is longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world and protects of over 70 miles of coastline and sand dunes. It also allows you to park and camp for free on miles of deserted beach along the North Beach section of the National Seashore allowing you to enjoy the soft sand and warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
With camping of this nature, we always suggest you are self-sufficient and remain flexible with your schedule and that where possible, you check for current conditions and regulations.
Please see our great Tourbook with its 31 packed itineraries and how the above camping sites can fit within your preferred areas of the country. https://www.rvcheckin.com/tour_book/CA-Tourbook.pdf. See your local tour operator or travel agent for prices and availability.
