The Reefline Aquatic Sculpture Park is being developed by BlueLab
Preservation Society in partnership with the City of Miami Beach and will
feature environmentally functioning artwork by major international artists and
designers. The 7-mile underwater sculpture park, snorkel trail and artificial
reef is located on the shoreline of Miami Beach, 600 feet from the shores of South Beach at 4th
street. Split into 3
phases, work on the line will be completed in stages meaning that there will
always be more to come back and see.
Ximena Caminos, founder of
The Blue Initiative has been working on The Reefline for three years, with the
first phase having begun over the summer. The Reefline is more than an
underwater museum as its structures will resemble nature reefs created by
habitats for marine life, it is also a free snorkel reef that will be
accessible to all with a VR component in development. Within swimming distance
from shore, The ReefLine will provide the community with a free opportunity to
engage directly with Miami’s marine biological diversity and underwater public
art without the need for boats or scuba diving equipment. It represents the
future of Florida's blue economy, at the intersection of art, science,
technology, and education and highlights Miami as a creative beacon for
non-traditional solutions on climate change. For more information, visit https://www.thereefline.org/
