What's New in Tucson in 2026

Tucson's downtown has been a focal point of revitalisation during the past few years. One of Tucson's downtown neighbourhoods, Barrio Viejo, is currently seeking the National Historic Landmark designation and is the largest barrio in the U.S. There has been a renewed focus on Barrio Viejo and its historic buildings, including the restoration of Teatro Carmen, a 300-seat theatre, and the adjoining building, the one-time home of the Black Elks Club. Teatro Carmen's renewed patio is slated to open in 2026 to the public and will feature community events, live music and outdoor dining.
New Properties - The Castle -Allure of the Desert is a new premier, clothing-optional, wellness resort for gay men coming to Tucson in early 2026. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the AAA Four-Diamond JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort began a new $70 million renovation that will continue over the next four years. The 575 guest rooms and over 100k-square-feet of meeting space will receive an extensive facelift with an estimated completion date of May 2026.
