Geological Wonder! Magical Night Skies! Awe-Inspiring! Peace and Tranquility!
Just some of the words used to describe the large mass of
granite located right here in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.
Formed over one billion years ago, this site offers a number of
opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.
Hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock to see the 360-degree
views of the Hill Country landscape. While on top check out the vernal
pools inhabited by delicate Fairy Shrimp. While pets are prohibited at
the Summit and other areas in order to protect the Fairy Shrimp's
ecosystems, pets are welcome on the 4.5-mile Loop Trail around the park.
Take a rock climbing class with one of the guide services in the area,
or simply hike to a remote area of the park to experience the sights and
sounds of this special place. Every Saturday and Sunday (weather
permitting) there is a guided hike to the summit at 9:30 am. These hikes
discuss the natural and cultural history of the area as well as the
flora and fauna found here at Enchanted Rock.
Enchanted Rock was recently awarded the “Gold-tier” night sky
status by the International Dark-Sky Association, meaning Enchanted Rock
has very minimal light pollution and unspoiled views of the night sky.
Enchanted Rock is often referred to as a “stargazer's dream.” In fact,
the sky is typically so clear that you can even view the Milky Way.
