Miami-Dade Farmers Month Returns to Celebrate South Dade’s Agricultural Community

Now in its third year, the programme invites locals and visitors to learn about and enjoy South Dade’s farms and related businesses from 1 November to 30 November.
The roots of South Dade's farming community stretch back to the late 19th century when early settlers recognised the area’s fertile land and ideal climate for agriculture. Over the years, this region has emerged as a cornerstone of Florida's agricultural identity, offering economic benefits, preserving the state's farming heritage, and cultivating a deep connection between the land and local culture.
South Dade farmers continue to be a cornerstone of Greater Miami's agricultural industry, significantly contributing to both the local economy and food supply. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports that the region generates over $2.7 billion in economic impact annually and is home to more than 1,500 farms, cementing its status as the agricultural heart of Miami-Dade County.
"South Dade is a true gem within our destination, home to thriving farmland, agriculture, nurseries, and small businesses that support our community and economy," said David Whitaker, President & CEO of the GMCVB. "Miami-Dade Farmers Month celebrates the incredible farmers of South Dade and serves as an invitation for locals and visitors alike to support these vital businesses. It’s a celebration of the rich bounty our region offers and a reminder of the essential role these farmers play in our community and economy."
“Now in its third year, Miami-Dade Farmers Month has become a cherished tradition that showcases the resilience and dedication of our agricultural community,” shared Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, who introduced the legislation designating November as Farmers Month in Miami-Dade County. “It’s been inspiring to see Miami’s countryside come alive and the vital contributions of our farmers on full display. I’m excited to announce the return of Farmers Month this November, celebrating the natural beauty of our rural areas and the strong foundation of our local economy. Our agricultural community remains a cornerstone, supporting jobs and fostering economic growth. This year, we invite everyone to experience again the richness and hard work that define our farming community.”
From vibrant fruit and vegetable stands to family-friendly attractions and stunning wedding venues, South Dade offers something for everyone to enjoy.
