Seattle Space Needle invests in Covid safety

The new measures includes a new safety approach with layers of "hospital-grade" equipment and cleaning procedures in which state-of-the-art UV-C light technologies play an important role. Air Handling SystemsEncapsuLamps™ UV-C lights have been installed in the HVAC systems on the ground level, in the elevators, and two observation levels located at 500 and 520-feet in the air. UV-C light is very powerful and has been found to effectively kill bacteria, fungi and viruses with studies showing that UV-C has a 95%+ first path kill of airborne pathogens.
UV Sanitizing Entry Gate - All Guests are required to go through new far-UV-C portals at the entrance.  The Space Needle uses both UV-C and far-UV-C disinfecting equipment to help keep the air inside as clean and safe as possible.  The exterior elevators are different from nearly all elevators in the world. Unlike indoor elevators, the tower’s draw in 100% fresh air from outside. Plus, it’s a short ride to the top – just 41 seconds – and they are always operated by Team Members for a touchless experience. The elevators now also feature Healthe by Lighting Science Cleanse® Downlights, which emit safe, far-UV-C light.
