The Great Gatsby & Cincy Region

The Cincinnati region is home to a rich history of bootlegging and bourbon. George Remus, a real-life bootlegger and lawyer in Cincinnati who was known as the "King of the Bootleggers", is often said to have inspired the character of Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, as Fitzgerald was fascinated by Remus's larger-than-life personality. Remus was also a character in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.

The Cincinnati region was home to famous rumrunners during Prohibition and you can learn about the region's bootlegging history by taking a walking tour of Newport

Once you explore Cincy Region, travel to Louisville and find out more about the connection between the city and Scott Fitzgerald.
