Delaware

The First State

Delaware may be small in size, but it’s big on charm, history, and coastal beauty. Known as The First State for being the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution, Delaware blends colonial heritage, tax-free shopping, and sandy shorelines into one easily accessible destination. Nestled between Maryland and New Jersey, it offers a quieter, more intimate experience of the Mid-Atlantic - without sacrificing variety.

Delaware’s rich past is everywhere, from the cobbled streets of New Castle to the historic town of Dover. It’s here you’ll find some of the finest Early American decorative arts collections, as well as historic homes and estates that reflect the state’s colonial importance. At First State Heritage Park or the Old State House, history comes alive through guided tours and living history demonstrations.

With 25 miles of unspoiled sandy beaches, Delaware is a favourite for those seeking sun, sea, and serenity. From the lively boardwalks of Rehoboth Beach to the quieter dunes of Bethany Beach, visitors can enjoy a coastal getaway without the crowds. Nature lovers can explore woodland trails, wildlife reserves, and peaceful kayaking routes through protected waterways. Delaware’s compact size means you’re never far from a scenic view.

Whether you're hunting for antiques, browsing boutiques, or indulging in some tax-free shopping at places like Tanger outlets in Rehoboth, Delaware is a shopper's delight. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy NASCAR races, college games, or a day at the Delaware Park horse track and casino. For a dose of culture, here are world-class museums, charming galleries, and seasonal festivals that celebrate everything from jazz to peaches.

Maryland offers a broader geographic range and larger cities, but Delaware's advantage lies in its calm, walkable towns and laid-back charm. It's ideal for visitors who want history, beaches, and nature in a relaxed setting. Compared to New Jersey, Delaware delivers a more low-key alternative to the Jersey Shore, with fewer crowds but just as much coastal appeal. And while New Jersey boasts major metro connections, Delaware's smaller scale makes it easy to explore in a weekend or extended stay.
