New York

Empire State

When people think of New York, their minds often go straight to New York City, a global capital of art, finance, fashion, and food. But beyond the dazzling lights of Manhattan lies an entire state brimming with cultural treasures, outdoor adventure, historic sites, and culinary experiences that rival anywhere in the USA.

Whether you're planning a long weekend in the Big Apple or a week exploring scenic landscapes, New York tourism delivers unforgettable experiences in every season.

Discover the Best of City and Countryside

New York City offers a fast-paced, cosmopolitan atmosphere filled with world-famous attractions like the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Times Square, and Broadway. But venture beyond the five boroughs and you’ll find a more relaxed pace with just as much to offer.

To the east lies Long Island, where pristine beaches, coastal wineries, quaint fishing villages, and Gold Coast mansions provide the perfect escape. The Hamptons and Montauk offer some of the Northeast's most desirable coastal retreats, while the North Fork is known for its peaceful charm and award-winning wines.

Further north, the Hudson Valley and Catskills blend heritage and nature. Stroll through the grand halls of Vanderbilt Mansion or FDR’s home in Hyde Park, then enjoy hiking, zip-lining, and skiing in the Catskill Mountains. These regions are also a haven for farm-to-table dining, boutique shopping, and creative arts festivals.

Head west to the Finger Lakes, home to rolling vineyards, glacier-carved lakes, and charming towns. This region is the second-largest wine-producing area in the US and perfect for scenic drives, wine tastings, and relaxed lakeside getaways. The Adirondacks, with their crystal-clear lakes, towering peaks, and the historic Olympic Village of Lake Placid, are ideal for outdoor enthusiasts all year round.

And of course, no trip to upstate New York is complete without visiting the majestic Niagara Falls - one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders.

How New York Compares to New Jersey and New Hampshire

New Jersey, just across the river from NYC, offers charming coastal spots like Cape May and the Jersey Shore, and while New York covers a broader area with mountains, lakes and Great Lakes scenery, both states give travellers a great mix of coastal views and nearby city access.

New Hampshire is beloved for its White Mountains, vibrant autumn colours, and quaint New England towns, and New York offers its own combination of outdoor landscapes alongside wine regions, historic estates, and lively cities, giving travellers different styles of escapes depending on what they enjoy.

A State with Something for Everyone

Whether you're kayaking in the Thousand Islands, catching a Broadway show, sipping Riesling in the Finger Lakes, or skiing down Whiteface Mountain, New York caters to every type of traveller. Families, couples, solo adventurers, and international visitors will find experiences that combine relaxation, culture, and excitement.

New York State tourism is about contrasts and connections: urban vs rural, modern vs historic, and nature vs culture. It’s a destination that never stops surprising you, no matter how many times you visit.
