Virginia

The Old Dominion State

With its blend of coastal charm, mountain escapes, and deep-rooted history, Virginia is one of the most diverse destinations on the East Coast. Whether you’re walking the cobbled streets of Colonial Williamsburg, sipping wine in the Shenandoah Valley, or relaxing on the sands of Virginia Beach, the state offers a unique balance of culture, adventure, and relaxation.

A State Shaped by American History

History takes centre stage here. Virginia was home to eight U.S. presidents and key moments from America’s birth to the Civil War. In the Historic Triangle - Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown - visitors can step back in time to the earliest days of the American colonies. Nearby, Mount Vernon and Monticello offer powerful insights into the lives of Washington and Jefferson.

Mountains, Coastline, and Outdoor Adventure

Outdoor lovers will find plenty to explore. The Blue Ridge Mountains offer dramatic views along the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, perfect for scenic drives, hiking, and wildlife watching. The Appalachian Trail cuts through Virginia with over 500 miles of peaceful forest and mountain landscapes. Along the coast, the Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Beach offer water sports, seafood dining, and laid-back seaside escapes.

Virginia’s Growing Wine Region

Virginia is also gaining recognition as a top wine destination. With more than 300 wineries and 20+ scenic wine trails, it’s easy to pair mountain views or vineyard sunsets with a locally made Merlot or Viognier. October’s Virginia Wine Month is a state-wide celebration with tastings, festivals, and food pairings in charming countryside settings.

Exploring the Wider Appalachian Region

West Virginia shares much of Virginia’s Appalachian character, offering some of the region's most rugged mountain landscapes and extensive hiking trails. Both states feature scenic viewpoints and rich cultural traditions, but each highlights different aspects of Appalachian life and outdoor recreation.

North Carolina also combines mountains and coastline, with the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains to the west and long stretches of Atlantic shoreline to the east. Like Virginia, it offers a mix of outdoor adventure, history, and coastal escapes, with each state providing its own interpretation of East Coast culture and scenery.

Whether you’re interested in discovering presidential history, sipping wine with a view, or hiking mountain trails, Virginia tourism offers something for every traveller. With its mix of scenic byways, vibrant cities, charming small towns, and historical significance, Virginia delivers a well-rounded American experience - all within easy reach.
