On 4 November, the British Guild of Travel Writers will gather at The Bloomsbury Ballroom to celebrate winners of the BGTW International Tourism Awards.
The scheme recognises excellence in tourism projects in four categories: Best UK & Ireland Tourism Project, Best Europe Tourism Project, Best Wider Tourism Project and Better World Project - for sustainability, Conservation and Cultural Preservation. The list is chosen by guild members who have visited these destinations and highlighted projects and initiatives that deserve recognition.
Part of the 'Best Wider World Tourism Project' category, the Moonshot Museum in Pittsburgh has been recognised as a cultural institution allowing visitors to get up close and behind the scenes of the 21st century space industry. The museum is up against the Akrich Community Jewish Cemetery & Women's Cooperative - for new community projects established to provide additional income and support to the community in Morocco, and the Simose Art Museum in Japan that collects and preserves the countries works of art.
The Moonshot Museum is Pennsylvania's first space museum and a unique living lab where visitors can get closer to the work of space than almost anywhere else on the planet. Through a partnership with Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic, an innovative space robotics company, visitors can peek behind the scenes to witness spacecraft being built through floor-to-ceiling windows. But it doesn't end there—embark on unforgettable simulated lunar missions inspired by real industry challenges and meet up space professionals in Mission Control Pittsburgh.
Being nominated by members of the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers as one of the best new tourism projects in the UK, Europe or the wider world is a significant achievement, and one that can be used to help promote the project to attract even more visitors.
